Fulldome is an emerging spherical media environment which combines projected 360° moving image with multi-channel surround sound to create a deeply embodied collective immersive experience. 

The fulldome medium has its origins in traditional planetarium spaces but in recent years a growing interest in the creative potential of fulldome has led to an increasing number of fulldome projection experiences film, art & cultural festivals and gallery and museum exhibitions. 

Fulldome spaces have always attracted artists. For example, Bauhaus artists Gropius, Kandinsky and Klee were regular visitors at the Zeiss Planetarium in Jena, Germany and artists such as Jordan Belson & Henry Jacobs, Stan VanDerBeek and Experiments in Art and Technology (E.A.T.) were renowned for creating innovative creative fulldome experiences in the United States during the 1960’s and 70’s. The artistic tradition within the fulldome sector continues to evolve as production facilities become more readily available, more artists are drawn to the fulldome medium. The expanded interest in cultural programming and interdisciplinary collaboration beyond the planetarium sector has led to the creation of a handful of dedicated artistic fulldome venues around the globe. 

By harnessing our shared passion for the fulldome medium, the FCN seeks to generate opportunities for artists, researchers, curators and producers to investigate, explore, expand and articulate the artistic and creative potential of the fulldome medium through practice-based enquiry. We are committed to the development and distribution of innovative artistic, narrative, performative, documentary, real-time, interactive and hybrid experiences for fulldome spaces. 

In addition, the FCN provides a much-needed platform for discussion, collaboration, intersection and imagination for the creative and artistic fulldome enthusiasts who make up this fulldome community.
